The Pestemal (pronounced pesh-te-mal) is the authentic Turkish hammam towel. It is flat-woven with hand-tied fringe, typically made of Turkish cotton, linen or even silk.Pestemal is a traditional handicraft which has been produced by weaving on hand looms by women in Turkey’s eastern Black Sea and Aegean regions for centuries.
Pestemalsare extremely absorbent, light weight and compact, they are as absorbent as the big fluffy towels but are much lighter to carry to the pool or beach and take less space in your bag or linen cupboard. Their fine texture means they absorb water fast and dry quicker than classic towels.Pestemals should be washed gently, and they get softer after each wash.
It takes less energy to launder and dry as they take much less space in the machines and endures frequent washing.
They can be used as a bath towel, a SPA/sauna wrap, beach sarong, or a beach towel. They are also perfect for travels since they take much less space in the suitcase and dry quickly.
Pestemals are still produced by weaving on hand-looms without the chemical intense processes of the modern textile industry. Natural dyes are used and the end product is not loaded with hidden chemicals. Pestemal is natural, pure and thus healty.
